The City of Everett is accepting applications on an open/continuous basis for the civil service examination for a Lateral Firefighter Paramedic**** . All vacancies in this job class will be filled from the ranked Civil Service register established from the examination process until the candidate’s name expires off the list 12 months after certification.

JOB DESCRIPTION :
The work involves general firefighting duties, including combating, extinguishing, and preventing fires, as well as paramedic level emergency medical care in accordance to the Snohomish County Prehospital Treatment Guidelines, Protocols and Procedures.
The primary responsibilities depend upon current assignment, but they will involve the protection of life and property through fire suppression and EMS activities. It will include emergency medical response, identification and treatment of life-threatening illness or injury performed in strict accordance with Snohomish County Protocols. The work requires performance of hazardous or stressful tasks under emergency conditions that may involve strenuous exertion under difficult circumstances. Employees in this classification are required to apply both special firefighting skills and technical paramedical skills acquired by work experience and specialized training/certification programs. A substantial amount of time is spent training, performing inspections and maintaining of stations and equipment. Field performance reviews are required.

Lateral Firefighter Paramedic
All applicants must be currently employed as a full-time, paid, career structural firefighter and have: (1) A minimum of 24 months of continuous service as a full-time career firefighter. (2) At least 12 concurrent months of service as a certified Paramedic in the State of Washington, holding NREMT-P or NRP certification. (3) Current certification at the IFSAC FF-I and HazMat Awareness level. (4) Possession of a current State of Washington Paramedic certification or National Registry Paramedic (NRP) eligible for Washington State reciprocity, and maintain such certification for the duration of employment. (5) Excellent physical condition. (6) U.S. Citizenship, a lawful permanent resident, or deferred action for childhood arrivals recipients (DACA). (7) Attainment of the age of 21 years by date of hire. (8) Possession of, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire, a Washington State Driver License and maintain such license for the duration of employment. (9) Possession of a current CPAT. (10) Submission to thorough background checks, including psychological, physical, and medical evaluations; employment reference checks; and verification of all applicable certifications. (11) Successful completion and maintenance of Emergency Vehicle Incident Prevention (EVIP) qualifications. (12) New employees must participate in, and successfully complete, the requirements of the Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee (JATC) program within 3 years of hire. (13) Ability and willingness to successfully complete the mandated course of instruction at the Everett Fire Department sponsored academy and subsequent department field training programs. (14)All new hire firefighters are required to participate in the Respiratory Protection Program.

The City of Everett provides a comprehensive benefits package consisting of the following: - Kaiser Permanente CORE HMO, LEOFF Trust Plan A, or HMA Self-Insured - Delta Dental Service Plan - HMA self-insured Vision Plan Benefit eligibility for the employee and eligible dependents begins the first day of the month following the employee's hire date. A portion of benefit premiums for single or family coverage are paid by the City on behalf of the employee as outlined in the labor agreement.
It is mandatory that both the City and the employee pay into the Department of Retirement Systems for Washington State.
Three voluntary Deferred Compensation programs are available for employee participation. There is an employer contribution on the deferred compensation plans that is outlined in the labor agreement.
A Flexible Spending Plan is available that allows you to make pre-tax contributions for Health Care reimbursement and/or Dependent Care reimbursement for those expenses not covered by medical insurance.
The Employee Assistance Program EAP is provided free of charge to employees and family members.
