FIRE INSPECTOR
The Lake Zurich Fire Prevention Bureau has an opening for a full time Fire Prevention Inspector to conduct inspections of commercial, and residential buildings for compliance with applicable fire codes, ordinances and statutes. Business hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 am – 4:00 pm with occasional weekend or evening hours.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Conducts fire and life safety inspections across various occupancies; identifies hazards and code violations.
- Prepares inspection reports, correction notices, and follow-up documentation; performs re-inspections.
- Assists with plan reviews and fire protection system checks.
- Collects and analyzes data on fire incidents and hazards.
- Maintains accurate records; prepares reports, correspondence, and program statistics.
- Utilizes inspection software and departmental systems.
- Develops and delivers fire safety education programs; participates in community outreach and events; and supports community risk reduction initiatives.
- Assists with coordination of special events and public education strategies.
- Provides fire prevention support during incidents; assists suppression personnel and investigators.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED and valid driver’s license; Minimum two years of fire prevention/inspection experience; Certified as Basic Fire Prevention Officer or Fire Prevention Officer I.
- Required within one year of hire: ICC Fire Inspector I certification; Plans Examiner certification; Public Fire and Life Safety Educator I; and Youth Fire Setting Intervention Specialist.
- Selected candidate must also successfully complete a background check and post-offer employment physical examination including a drug screening.
Compensation and Benefits: The starting annual salary is $60,775.00. Comprehensive benefits include health, dental, vision, and life insurance, paid vacation, sick, and holiday leave, and participation in the IMRF pension fund.
