A Firefighter responds to fires, medical emergencies, and other emergency situations to administer life support care to sick and injured persons and to protect life and property.

Education/Experience: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Certificates and Licenses: - State of Alabama Firefighter I/II Certificate. - Valid driver’s license issued by the Alabama Department of Public Safety. - Licensed by the State of Alabama as an Emergency Medical Technician - must complete Paramedic license within 3 years of hire. Language Ability: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing soft-ware and Spreadsheet software.
Supervisory Responsibilities: May supervise employees in the Fire Department when filling the duties of AOIC in accordance with applicable laws and policies. Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees, planning and assigning and directing work, providing feedback and addressing complaints and resolving problems.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather); work near moving mechanical parts; work in high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outdoor weather conditions; extreme cold (non-weather);extreme heat (non-weather); risk of electrical shock; work with explosives; risk of radiation and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to severe.
