This is a full-time, hourly position. The position performs fire-fighting, fire prevention and patient care work in rendering pre-hospital life support functions, other emergency care, and rescue services. Duties include the operation and maintenance of the ambulance and driving apparatus.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - Knowledge of first aid, cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and the use of life sustaining equipment and practices.- Knowledge of safety and comfort manners and methods in the handling and treatment of patients.- Knowledge of fire prevention, suppression, and extinguishing techniques.- Knowledge of Florida safety requirements and privileges when responding to non-emergency and emergency calls.- Ability to remain current in all Standards of Care as dictated by the County EMS Standard Operating Procedures Manual.- Ability to become familiar with the roadway/highway system within the County.- Ability to learn and operate relatively complex fire fighting and rescue equipment.- Ability to work as a team.- Ability to adhere to physician instructions, protocol, and standing orders.- Skill in defensive driving methods.- Skill in operation of an emergency vehicle.- Must have legible handwriting. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE - High school graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. (No comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the above minimum qualifications.)
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS - Ability to possess and maintain a valid Commercial Florida Driver's License. - Must maintain both Florida EMT certification and BLS/CPR certification.- Must possess a State of Florida Firefighter Certificate of Compliance- Certification of completion of a Florida approved E.V.O.C. or defensive driving course.- Training and certification in the use of IV maintenance and monitoring.- Certified as an Emergency Vehicle Operator, as specified in Chapter 10D-66. ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS - As required by Florida Fire/EMT certification.- Must successfully pass departmental lifting test and be physically able to perform the job duties. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS - Emergency conditions.- Outdoors in varying weather conditions. ANNUAL (VACATION) LEAVE – All regular full-time employees assigned to a 37.50 work week will earn 90 hours to 150 hours, depending on classification and length of service. All regular full-time employees assigned to a 40 hour work week will earn 96 hours to 160 hours, depending on classification and length of service. Note: Leave accruals may differ for bargaining unit employees.
SICK LEAVE – All regular full-time employees will earn sick leave at a rate of 13 days per year. Regular part time employees will accrue sick leave on a pro-rata basis. Note: Leave accruals may differ for bargaining unit employees.
