This is specialized public safety work in the protection of life and property through firefighting, basic life support, and mitigation of other manmade and natural disasters including hazardous material accidents within the Plant City Fire Division of Fire Rescue and Emergency Services. Employees in this classification perform work in varied assignments, including but not necessarily limited to, ALS vehicles but also BLS vehicles. Employees are directly engaged in the mitigation of a multitude of natural and manmade emergencies including but not limited to, fire suppression, hazardous materials, accidents, the administration of basic life support protocols, the driving and operation of fire and rescue apparatus, and the conducting of fire, safety, and medical prevention activities. Work assignments and instructions are received from a supervisor who reviews work methods and results through observation, reports and conferences. ## Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Responding to and performing skilled tasks at the scene of emergency calls including fire suppression, medical assistance, rescues, hazard identification, hazardous materials incidents, public assistance and service while operating various forms of communication equipment. - May be required to lay hose lines and direct fire streams to extinguish and contain fires; raise and climb ladders to perform search and rescue procedures along with ventilation of burning structures. - Cleans and maintains fire station facilities and equipment and other related apparatus. - Provide emergency medical services as required and perform light to heavy rescue functions at emergencies. - Participates in the use and maintenance of firefighting and emergency medical equipment. - Participates in drills, classes and schools in firefighting, emergency medical treatment and other fire service-related areas. Participates in mandatory training every shift. - Safely driving and operating fire apparatus, vehicles and equipment; making reports on the operation of various fire equipment. - Writing reports and maintaining records manually and using computers to perform data entry and specialized functions. - Participating in proficiency training to develop and maintain job skills. - Performing emergency medical procedures and assisting Firefighter/Paramedics in advanced life support emergency medical care. - Assisting in making residential, commercial and industrial inspections to cover and eliminate fire hazards and gain compliance with federal, state and local laws, codes and ordinances. - Other duties may be assigned as dictated by ** ** operational necessity . ## Minimum Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to carry out each essential duty or responsibility satisfactorily.
