2026 Salary Information

FF/EMT: $74,786.96 entry to $106,848.67 top step. Employees who possess and maintain a paramedic certification and operate at such capacity for the City of Moses Lake Fire Department will receive a 12% increase of the top step for Firefighter/EMT.

Job description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Certified as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic by the Washington Department of Health.

  •  Possess and maintain a current, valid, unrestricted Washington driver’s license. Routine driver’s abstract checks are required for this position.

  •  Maintain certification in Emergency Vehicle Incident Prevention.

  •  Maintain all required certifications for the step currently in.

  •  Drive, operate, and care for assigned apparatus / vehicle.

  •  Maintain, clean, and care for assigned station, vehicle, and all assigned equipment.

  •  Participate or assist in emergency and non-emergency operations as may be required, relating to fire, emergency medical, hazardous materials, rescue, and other related services.

  •  Participate in department assigned training including computer based and practical.

  •  Assist in public safety education programs or fire prevention programs that may include pre-incident planning, or company fire inspections.

  •  Assist and participate in community events as assigned.

  •  Remain current in continuing education as required by the Department of Health, the Medical Program Director, or Medical Services Officer.

  •  Maintain a working knowledge of the fire department operating guidelines.

  •  Follow City and Department policy and maintain a collaborative, and efficient work environment.

  •  Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively.

  •  Will be required to write reports of various types. Reports shall be clear, concise, factual, and punctual.

  •  Assists in other department activities as assigned.

  •  May instruct classes in assigned subject areas.

  •  Performs general maintenance work in the upkeep of fire facilities and equipment; cleans and washes walls and floors; cares for grounds around station; makes minor repairs; washes, hangs and dries hose; washes, cleans, polishes, maintains and tests apparatus and equipment, and ensure facilities and equipment are ready for immediate emergency response.

  •  Performs salvage operations such as throwing salvage covers, water removal, and removing debris, as needed.

  •  Performs additional related duties as assigned.

  • ** Certified as a paramedic by the Washington Department of Health to** :

  •  Perform pulmonary ventilation by the use of oral, endotracheal, or tracheostomy intubation.

  •  Insert in peripheral veins, intravenous catheters, needles, or other cannula-IV lines.

  •  Obtain venous blood samples for analysis, but only for diagnostic and treatment purposes.

  •  Prepare and administer approved medication and solutions by intravenous, intramuscular, subcutaneous, intraosseous, oral, sublingual, topical, inhalation, rectal, or endotracheal routes.

  •  Perform defibrillation and synchronized cardioversion.

  •  Perform gastric suction by nasogastric or orogastric intubation.

  •  Insert nasogastric or orogastric tubes.

  •  Visualize the airway by the use of the laryngoscope and remove foreign bodies with forceps.

  •  Apply electrodes and monitor cardiac electrical activity including electrocardiograms.

  •  Perform vagal maneuvers.

  •  Assess and manage patients in accordance with the EMT-Paramedic training curriculum and operate within the scope authorized by the Grant County Medical Protocols.

  •  Perform thoracic decompression.

  •  Perform cricothyrotomy and pulmonary ventilation.

  •  Perform central venous and intraosseous cannulation.

  •  Perform external transthoracic pacing.

  •  Perform all other Advanced Life Support services that may be authorized by the Washington Department of Health and approved Regional EMS Council transfer and / or Grant County Medical protocols for Emergency Medical Services.

  •  Stay abreast of changes to authorized procedures / treatments as adopted, changed, or terminated by the Washington Department of Health, approved Regional EMS Council transfer and / or Grant County Medical protocols for Emergency Medical Services.

  •  Maintain all certifications required herein.
