Fire Captain

Under limited supervision, this position is responsible for overall station management and the supervision of personnel engaged in fire suppression, fire ground operations and emergency medical response. Reports to the Battalion Chief.

Essential Job Functions

• Responsible for effective supervision and coordination of emergency scene and station house operations including staff development and training, prioritizing and assigning work, performance management, employee relations, and related activities.

• Provides mentoring and assists employees with professional development.

• Maintains employee certifications and time and attendance records.

• Completes and/or reviews daily and monthly reports.

• Manages assigned station inventory of equipment, apparatus and specialty team equipment including inspection and maintenance requirements.

• Over sees fire station building maintenance.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Requires three (3) years of career service as an engineer. Requires high school diploma supplemented by five (5) years of experience and training in fire service programs, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Licenses or Certifications:

• Class E South Carolina driver’s license required.

• NFPA Fire Officer 2

• Incident Safety Officer

• NIMS I-400

• NREMT certification and qualify for SC DHEC licensure; may be required to possess additional certification(s) as deemed necessary by the Town.

Special Requirements:

Must be able to successfully complete annual firefighter physical examination and Firefighter Physical Ability Assessment testing. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment and self-contained breathing apparatus.

Job Grade N-112, Minimum Salary: $61,897.57
