Fire Marshal

Qualifications

•  Associate degree from an accredited college or university in Fire Science, Fire Administration or related field.

  •  10 years of progressive Fire Service Experience.
  •   5 years of extensive firefighting related experience at the company officer level or higher
  •   5 years of progressive experience with fire prevention and code enforcement, fire investigation, plan review and public education. -   Any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work. 

  General Statement of Duties

  The Fire Marshal manages the Fire Prevention Division for the Mountain Home Fire Department and serves to implement and evaluate various programs and policies related to fire investigation, inspection, prevention, and education. 

  Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  Knowledge of: -  Strong knowledge of the International Fire Code

  •  Knowledge of:   investigative techniques, characteristics and behavior of fire, and fire prevention practices
  •  Strong background in performing design review and compliance evaluation plans for various types of buildings
  •  Some knowledge of:  accounting, statistics, and building construction practices 

  Ability to: **-  ** Interpret, apply, and enforce federal, state, and local fire safety codes and ordinances with firmness and fairness -  Develop and deliver effective fire safety education and training programs  -  Make sound, decisive decisions under pressure and in stressful, potentially life-threatening conditions -  Operate and maintain various firefighting and fire safety equipment, including suppression systems, alarms, and extinguishers 

  Other Requirements

  The duties of this position are performed in a work environment in which the employee may be subject to potential personal danger.  An employee in this position must be able to perform the physical requirements of the job, which may include climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pushing, pulling, and lifting/carrying up to fifty pounds.  The employee must possess sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to perform all duties involved in protecting lives and property.
