Roselle Fire Department
Roselle, IL · DuPage County
The Roselle Fire Department (RFD) serves the Village of Roselle in Illinois' northwest suburbs, along with portions of unincorporated Medinah in DuPage County and unincorporated Itasca in Cook County. It delivers fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical services, technical rescue, hazardous materials response, dive/water rescue, and fire prevention.
The department operates an Advanced Life Support (ALS) EMS system, staffing two ambulances (with a third available when staffing allows). Department members are typically all State Certified Firefighters and certified EMT-Basics and/or EMT-Paramedics.
RFD carries an ISO Public Protection Classification of 2 — near the top of the scale — and works closely with neighboring departments through automatic and mutual aid agreements with Itasca, Bloomingdale, Hanover Park, Elk Grove, and Schaumburg.
The department is administered from its offices at 100 E. Maple Ave. and also runs community programs including CPR training, fire prevention and community risk reduction, and Explorer Post 383 for youth.
Full-time firefighter/paramedic hiring in Roselle runs through the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners, which holds open competitive examinations on a biennial (roughly every two years) basis to build an eligibility register. Candidates who complete the testing process are ranked by points earned, and the resulting eligibility list stays valid for two years from the date of posting.
Beyond the initial exam, the Board may conduct additional pass/fail examinations before making an appointment, including a character and background investigation, an oral examination, and a polygraph. Department members are expected to be State Certified Firefighters and certified EMT-Basics and/or EMT-Paramedics. A part-time firefighter/paramedic application is also available.
