There are some things that stay with you.
The sound of the tones. The anticipation of the call. The training that kicks in when someone needs help. The people you work beside. And the feeling that comes from knowing you made a difference.
The La Grande Fire Department is looking for EMT Casuals to join our team and help provide emergency medical care and ambulance transport to the people of our community.
Maybe you've been doing EMS for years. Maybe you're just getting started. Maybe your career has taken you in a different direction, but you still want a connection to the work. Or maybe you're looking for a way to serve your community while maintaining flexibility in your life.
Wherever you are in your EMS journey, there's a place for you here.
As an EMT Casual, you'll work alongside career EMS personnel responding to emergency and non-emergency medical calls, providing patient care and transport, assisting with inter-facility transfers, and driving ambulances as needed.
You'll train with the team, maintain your skills and certifications, and help keep our ambulances, equipment, and station ready for the next call.
But great EMS is about more than the medical care we provide.
It's about the person beside you when the call gets difficult.
It's about the patient and family who need someone to remain calm and compassionate.
It's about trusting your training and trusting your team.
And it's about being there for the people in the community you serve.
EMT Casuals work on an as-needed basis , including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
It's an opportunity to stay connected to EMS, use your experience, support your fellow responders, and serve your community—without requiring the commitment of a full-time position.
For those interested in call-pending emergency response , you must reside within 15 miles of the La Grande Fire Station or be physically within 15 miles of the station when a call-pending page-out occurs.
Non-emergency patient transfers do not have the 15-mile residency requirement, provided you can respond to the La Grande Fire Station within one hour of accepting the transfer.
Maybe You've Been Looking for the Right Opportunity.
Maybe you want to get back into EMS.
Maybe you want to stay connected to the profession you love.
Maybe you have experience to share.
Maybe you simply want to give something back to the community.
Bring your experience. Bring your compassion. Bring your commitment to service.
Be part of a team that shows up when our community needs us most.
Join the La Grande Fire Department as an EMT Casual.
Your skills have a place here. Your community needs you. Your team is waiting.
You know EMS. You know what it means to show up. You know the difference one person can make.
If you're ready to put those skills back to work—or simply keep them connected to something that matters—we'd like you to be part of our team.
he City of La Grande is dedicated to building a community where people thrive, feel safe, and experience connection and belonging. We honor and celebrate the richness of diversity each person brings.
