The Town of Carrabassett Valley, Maine is accepting applications for the full-time, year-round position of Fire Chief. Nestled in the heart of Maine’s beautiful western mountains, Carrabassett Valley is home to year-round recreational amenities including the Outdoor Center (prominent Nordic Ski and Mountain Bike Center), Anti-Gravity Center, Narrow Gauge Pathway rail trail, Appalachian Trail (many hiking opportunities), Town Park and swimming pool, Carrabassett River and close proximity to Flagstaff Lake, as well as renowned Sugarloaf Mountain Ski Resort.
As chronicled in the 2024 book “A Town Built by Ski Bums”, the Town of Carrabassett Valley was incorporated in 1972 with a focus on enhancing outdoor recreational opportunities. Today, Carrabassett Valley hosts the most outdoor tourist visits in Maine, second only to Acadia National Park. This means that backcountry search and rescue is an important element of the Town’s professional fire department.
Knowledge and proven experience in the areas outlined in the attached job description are desired. The successful candidate will possess demonstrated collaboration and leadership skills with the ability to inspire and empower staff, as well as an understanding of fiscal management and program budget oversight with basic accounting proficiency.
