Summary

Oversee and Maintains fire apparatus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

EVT Fire Mechanic I   The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.

  • Performs preventative maintenance on fire apparatus.
  • Performs major repairs on pumps, transfer cases, engines, drive lines, etc.
  • Performs equipment diagnostics and mechanical and electrical testing.
  • Conducts annual pump and ladder apparatus testing.
  • Requires the ability weld, cut, and fabricate.
  • Replaces obsolete parts with updated part such as emergency lighting.
  • Performs external repairs to apparatus, wreak repairs and proprietary electronic programming.
  • Provides training to personnel on the proper use of pump systems and general operation of apparatus.
  • Assists in preparation of work repair orders and related recordkeeping.

Education, Training and Experience

EVT Fire Mechanic I High School graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by six (6) years of experience in the maintenance and repair of apparatus, heavy equipment or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Special Certifications and Licenses: Required to possess and maintain a valid state Class F Driver License, with no air brake restrictions.
