The City of Vacaville invites applications for the position of Firefighter/Paramedic II - Lateral.Three (3) vacancies currently exist within the department. This recruitment will also be used to establish a list for future vacancies that may occur over the next 12-month period.
Vacaville Firefighter/Paramedics perform skilled work in emergency fire suppression, emergency medical care, fire prevention, investigation activities, ALS transportation and other activities that support the protection of life and property. Firefighter/Paramedics assume primary responsibility for patient care at the scene of a medical emergency, assist in the maintenance and care of all stations, apparatus and equipment and perform other related duties normally associated with the position of a professional Firefighter/Paramedic.
Firefighter/Paramedic II is the journey level and performs the full range of Firefighter and Paramedic duties.
Compensation:
$131,451- $188,025/annually
*The minimum salary listed includes base pay, holiday pay, EMT pay, and education _ & uniform allowances. The maximum salary includes maximum base pay, holiday pay, EMT pay, bachelor's degree, Senior Firefighter III, bilingual pay, and continuing education & uniform allowances._

The City of Vacaville is seeking an enthusiastic, journey-level fire service professional with a positive attitude who is excited to become part of a community service-driven team. The ideal candidate will be: - A team player who has empathy toward the community and coworkers and possesses a high level of emotional intelligence; - A professional firefighter paramedic who can quickly assimilate into a high-performing all-risk emergency response team; - A field-proven, paramedic-level EMS provider with a track record of competent and compassionate patient care; - Well versed in modern fire service practices; and - Knowledgeable in fire science and prehospital medical care. Qualifications
Education: Certification of successful completion of California State Fire Marshal approved Firefighter I training (or equivalent) curriculum is required. College-level coursework in fire science is desirable. * ** *Experience: ** ** ** One year paid full-time professional experience as a Firefighter/Paramedic in an all-risk fire department that provides services similar to those of the City of Vacaville is required. Two or more years experience is desirable.

Part-time positions are paid an hourly rate and can work up to a maximum of 129 hours per month. Part-time positions are at-will, are not eligible for health or retirement benefits (including CalPERS membership), and do not accrue leave time with the exception of state mandated sick leave (40 hours per year). Part-time positions are not covered by Social Security and are not eligible for the City of Vacaville's retirement plan through CalPERS and are therefore required to make 7.5% pre-tax contributions into a qualified plan under the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1990 (OBRA). For the City of Vacaville, the plan is a Section 457 Deferred Compensation Plan through Nationwide Retirement Systems, Inc.
