About Fremont County Fire Protection District

Fremont County Fire Protection District was formed in 1993, bringing twelve rural and small-town fire departments together under one organization. Today it is staffed by more than 150 volunteer firefighters organized into 13 battalions spread across the county.

The district covers about 6,000 of Fremont County's roughly 10,000 square miles, serving communities including Shoshoni, Hudson, Pavillion, Kinnear, Crowheart, Fort Washakie, Atlantic City, and rural Lander, with headquarters in Riverton.

Because of its rural, wide-open geography, the district emphasizes a close-knit, community-first culture built around the idea of a "fire family" of neighbors caring for neighbors.

MissionTaking care of you is what we do and who we are!

How to get hired

The district actively recruits volunteers and welcomes new members into its "fire family." Prospective firefighters apply through an online application form, then go through a background-check waiting period during which they may attend meetings before gear is issued.

New members enroll in the district's own FCFPD Firefighter 1 Academy to earn their certification and complete a probationary period. Applicants generally must live within the fire district's boundaries and commit to minimum attendance and call-response participation each year.

PayAll positions are volunteer; no salary or stipend is offered.
