Department careers page ↗The Verona Fire Department provides fire protection, rescue, and emergency response to roughly 20,000 residents across about 32 square miles just southwest of Madison, Wisconsin. It operates 24/7/365 as a combination department blending career and paid-on-call members.
Staffing includes a Fire Chief, battalion chiefs, lieutenants, and apparatus engineers on the full-time side, supported by part-time and paid-on-premise shift personnel, paid-on-call responders who turn out for larger incidents, and fire science interns through a partnership with Madison College.
The department works closely with Fitch-Rona EMS on emergency medical response, letting its members focus on fire, rescue, and prevention while sharing coverage of the growing Verona community.

Verona continually recruits Paid-On-Call Firefighters and posts openings through the City of Verona's job portal. Candidates must live within the geographic boundaries surrounding the City and Town of Verona as established by the Police and Fire Commission.
New members complete department-provided Entry Level Firefighter and Certified Firefighter I coursework within 18 months and commit to attending at least 60% of the Monday night trainings held weekly from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
