About Huntington Fire Department

Huntington Fire Department has served the city of Huntington, West Virginia since 1897, growing from horse-drawn bucket brigades into a modern career department of roughly 95 firefighters operating out of six stations across the city, including Centennial, Guyandotte, and Westmoreland. Alongside structural firefighting and EMS response, the department places significant emphasis on fire prevention and community outreach, partnering with local schools and neighborhoods to reduce risk.

Huntington also hosts West Virginia Regional Response Team 6, a specialized hazardous materials and technical rescue unit that serves a six-county area (Cabell, Wayne, Mason, Lincoln, Boone, and Mingo Counties) using a dedicated HazMat apparatus, an Air and Light Unit, and a Technical Rescue Ladder. Members carry national certifications in hazmat mitigation, technical rescue, and weapons-of-mass-destruction response. The department's IAFF Local 289 Honor Guard represents active and retired members at funerals, memorials, and civic events.

MissionTo protect lives, preserve property, and stand ready—24 hours a day—for our community.
