Established in 1905 by Ordinance #35 as a combination career and volunteer department, it was founded on two priorities that endure today: minimizing fire losses and promoting fire prevention.
The department expanded into emergency medical care in the 1960s with its first rescue/aid vehicle and added its first Emergency Medical Technician in the early 1970s; it provides ambulance service to the community. Its mission is to deliver a professional level of emergency service through effective staffing, training, partnerships, and cost-effective use of funding.
