About Chelan County Fire Protection District 7

Chelan Fire & Rescue has served northeast Chelan County since 1926, growing into a combination department that blends career staff with a large volunteer force. Operating under Washington State Title 52, the district covers roughly 125 square miles stretching from the City of Chelan through Chelan Falls, Union Valley, the south and north Lake Chelan shorelines, the Chelan Airport, and Howard Flats up to the Okanogan County line.

The department runs a diverse fleet — structural and wildland engines, water tenders, a ladder truck, a heavy rescue/special operations unit, command vehicles, and a rescue boat for Lake Chelan water incidents — reflecting the range of hazards its crews face, from lakeside emergencies to backcountry wildland fire. An elected Board of Fire Commissioners sets policy while an appointed Fire Chief oversees day-to-day operations across five stations.

Call volume has grown alongside the Lake Chelan area's year-round and seasonal population, with the district responding to over 1,100 emergency calls in 2023 spanning fire suppression, EMS, extrication, hazmat, and technical rescue.

MissionOur mission is to enhance the quality of life and safety of our community by protecting lives and property through emergency response, education and prevention.
