Department careers page ↗San Angelo Fire Department is a combination fire-suppression and EMS agency serving the city of San Angelo and areas of Tom Green County from eight fire stations. Every one of its 163 classified firefighters and EMS personnel is certified at the paramedic level, and the department runs its own ambulance service, answering more than 12,500 EMS calls a year in addition to fire suppression, prevention, and emergency management responsibilities.
The department also fields an Aircraft Rescue & Firefighting (ARFF) team with 15 certified personnel and is building out a swift-water rescue capability, with 15 fully deployable members expected by early 2026. New firefighter/paramedics are developed in-house at the department's own Regional Training Center, a 12-acre, $4.4 million training campus with a multi-story burn building, classrooms, and training-staff offices, where recruits complete roughly a 14-month academy of full-time (40 hours/week) instruction in suppression, hazmat, EMS, and fire science before being assigned to Central Fire Station (Station 1) for their first field experience.
Fire prevention and life-safety work is handled by the department's Fire Marshal's Office, which conducts commercial inspections and plan reviews, fire and arson investigations, and community fire-safety education, in addition to a smoke-detector donation program for residents.
MissionProvide the community with the highest level of life safety and property conservation through training, prevention, emergency medical services, suppression, and emergency management.

Prospective applicants can also contact the department's Human Resources office to request the SAFD Application Guide.
