Ovilla Fire Department
Red Oak, TX · Ellis County
The Ovilla Fire Department protects the City of Ovilla and neighboring areas south of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, including Ellis County ESD #2 and #4. It grew from an early bucket brigade into a formal organization, with the Ovilla Volunteer Fire Department incorporated in 1980 before folding into the city as a municipal department in 1985.
Today it operates as a combination department, blending a full-time chief officer corps with part-time paid and volunteer firefighters. Ranks include the fire chief, a deputy chief/fire marshal, captains, driver/paramedics, firefighter/paramedics, and firefighter/EMTs. All told, roughly 15 volunteers and 31 part-time personnel make up about 46 responders.
The department runs a fleet of about a dozen apparatus and answers roughly 60 to 70 calls each month, spanning structure, vehicle and brush fires, rescue, EMS, hazardous materials, and general public assistance. Its ISO Public Protection Classification is Class 2, a rating that reflects well-developed fire protection.
