The department staffs 20 fire stations strategically located across the city with a workforce of roughly 470 uniformed and civilian personnel.
Beyond structure fire and medical response, the department runs a broad range of specialized programs, including hazardous materials response, a dive rescue team, aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF), and technical rescue for high-angle, confined-space, trench, structural-collapse, and industrial incidents.
Lubbock Fire Rescue has been rated ISO Class 1 since 2019 and earned its second Class 1 rating in 2024, placing it among roughly the top one percent of fire departments nationally.

Firefighter hiring in Lubbock runs through the City's civil service process.
