Department careers page ↗Lewisville Fire Department traces its roots to 1904, when downtown merchants fought a chimney fire with a hand-drawn water wagon and bucket brigade. The city incorporated in 1925, appointed its first Fire Marshal in 1927, and moved from an all-volunteer bucket-and-siren operation to its first full-time paid Fire Chief in 1964. Growth along the Interstate 35E corridor since then has pushed the department from a single firehouse to eight stations built out between 1969 and 2019, each covering a different quadrant of the city as Lewisville grew into the 29th-largest city in Texas.
Today LFD runs three rotating shifts of roughly 54 members each, staffing paramedic fire engines, ladder trucks, and five front-line Mobile Intensive Care Unit ambulances out of its eight houses. Beyond structural fire and EMS response, members carry advanced training in dive rescue, rope rescue, extrication, and wildland firefighting, and the department fields a team on Texas Task Force 2. Since October 2022 the city has held ISO's top Class 1 Public Protection Classification for its fire prevention program.
The department also maintains an active Honor Guard and a 13-member bagpipe-and-drum band, the Lewisville Pipes and Drums, which has represented LFD at ceremonies and parades across the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex since 2005.
