Department careers page ↗Georgetown Fire Department traces its roots to 1876, making it one of the longest-continuously-operating fire departments in the country, and it has grown from a volunteer bucket-brigade outfit into a full-service career department covering the City of Georgetown. Today the department runs seven fire stations spread across the city's growing footprint, from the historic core near downtown to newer neighborhoods around Sun City and Lake Georgetown, and answers roughly 10,000 emergency calls a year.
Beyond structural firefighting, GFD crews are trained in high angle, confined space, and trench rescue, wildfire mitigation, and swift-water and dive/recovery operations, reflecting the mix of urban, lakefront, and rural terrain the department covers. The department added its own Emergency Medical Services division in October 2015, layering pre-hospital patient care and EMS transport onto its traditional fire-suppression role.
GFD frames its work around three core values — pride, passion, and respect — and is working toward its stated goal of international accreditation as it continues to expand stations and staffing to keep pace with one of Central Texas's fastest-growing cities.
MissionTo protect our community and surrounding region by providing prompt, professional, and caring services through continuous education, preparation, and community engagement.
