About Bastrop Fire Department

The Bastrop Fire Department is a combination agency of career and volunteer firefighters serving the city of Bastrop, Texas, southeast of Austin. Established in 1894, it protects roughly 12,000 residents across about 9 square miles from a single city-owned station in downtown Bastrop.

Day-to-day operations are handled by a small full-time crew of nine firefighters led by a fire chief and assistant fire chief, supported by a volunteer roster. The department runs about 1,250 calls a year and covers fire suppression, EMS response, fire prevention, inspections, and public education.

The department is affiliated with the State Firemen's and Fire Marshals' Association of Texas and operates under the Texas Commission on Fire Protection.

Mission"continuously strive to provide innovative and proactive services that enhance our authentic way of life"

How to get hired

Full-time firefighter positions are hired through the City of Bastrop's HR jobs portal, and candidates must already hold Texas structural firefighter and EMT certifications before applying. The process runs from an application and minimum-qualification review through a written exam, CPAT physical ability test, background investigation, panel interview, and a chief's interview before a conditional offer.

As a small single-station department, openings are limited; the full-time staffing page currently lists no openings, so interested candidates should watch the city's job portal for postings.
