About Bastrop County Emergency Services District 1

Bastrop County ESD No. 1 was established in 2003 to bring enhanced fire, rescue, and emergency services to southwestern Bastrop County. The district was a regional pioneer, fielding the county's first paid, state-commissioned firefighters and first paid, state-certified fire chief, and it was the first department in the area to staff a station full-time, 24/7/365.

The district is governed by a five-member Board of Emergency Services Commissioners, which meets publicly on the second Monday of each month at the Central Fire and Training Facility and oversees the tax revenue that funds equipment, training, and community safety programs. As a political subdivision, the district can levy up to $0.10 per $100 of property value to support its operations.

Bastrop County ESD No. 1 holds an ISO rating of 3, first achieved in January 2010, one of the strongest ratings in the region, which can reduce homeowner insurance rates by as much as 40.4%. The district enforces the 2018 International Fire Code and processes burn permits and inspections through the MyGov portal.
