Department careers page ↗Mauldin Fire Department traces its roots to 1958, when local volunteers formed the department with a single surplus military truck and 150 feet of hose, operating out of a donated vocational building. Since then it has grown from protecting a one-mile radius into a full career department serving the modern City of Mauldin and the surrounding Mauldin Fire Service Area in Greenville County.
Today the department operates four stations staffed by 53 personnel and holds a Class 1 ISO rating, reflecting a high level of fire suppression capability. In addition to fire suppression and emergency medical first response, the department runs community risk-reduction programs including youth fire safety education, car seat installation, fire extinguisher classes, food truck safety inspections, and an opioid response program that distributes naloxone and provides harm-reduction resources.
The department is led by Fire Chief Brian McHone and organized into three shifts under battalion chiefs, supported by a fire marshal's office handling code enforcement and prevention.
