About Clarendon County Fire Rescue

Clarendon County Fire Rescue (CCFR) was formed on July 1, 2020, through the merger of the Clarendon County Fire Department (established 1977) and McLeod Health Clarendon Emergency Medical Services. The combined agency delivers fire suppression, EMS transport, medical first response, rescue, water rescue, and hazmat services across the county.

Covering roughly 696 square miles (607 land, 89 water) and serving about 35,000 residents, the department operates 17 stations, four of which are staffed around the clock. More than 150 career and volunteer personnel make up the organization.

CCFR stands out for its integrated fire-EMS model, including on-staff medical control and what it describes as South Carolina's first fire-based Community Paramedic Program. The state has recognized the county as a Fire Safe Community.

How to get hired

CCFR recruits for both career and volunteer roles across firefighter, apparatus driver/operator, emergency medical responder, EMT, paramedic, and support positions. Prospective members apply through the online Application Request form on the department's website, indicating whether they are interested in career, volunteer, or both, and noting any current certifications (or "NA" if none).

Applicants must be at least 16 years old. Because the department operates a combination system with 24-hour stations and its own EMS transport, there are pathways for firefighters, EMS providers, and cross-trained candidates alike.
