About Anderson City Fire Department

Anderson Fire Department traces its roots to 1885, when City Council purchased the city's first fire equipment, a used steamer from Charleston, replacing the bucket brigades that had served since the city's 1826 incorporation. The department professionalized quickly afterward, hiring its first paid Fire Chief in 1910 and standing up a full-time crew with its first motorized pumper by 1915.

Today the department runs three stations, including the 1966 North Main Street station and the 2009 Simpson Road station that uniquely combines an engine company with ambulance service, and fields a fleet built around three frontline pumpers, a platform aerial truck, two reserve pumpers, a rescue truck, a ladder truck, a command post, and support vehicles. Beyond structural firefighting, Anderson firefighters staff a Technical Rescue Team founded in 1994, investigate arson, run public fire safety education and car-seat and smoke-alarm programs, and train out of a dedicated safety training facility completed in 1998 that also serves the surrounding county.

MissionThe mission of the Anderson Fire Department is to reduce the frequency and severity of emergencies, whether they are natural or manmade, by aggressively responding to all fires, technical rescues, high priority medical emergencies, and hazardous material incidents within the city limits and provide mutual aid to surrounding jurisdictions.
