Department careers page ↗Illinois Valley Fire District protects the rural communities of Oregon's Illinois Valley from its headquarters in Cave Junction. The district operates six stations spread across Cave Junction, Selma, O'Brien, Holland, Dryden, and Takilma.
The district is built around a volunteer model, seeking community members who are willing to train and respond regardless of prior firefighting experience. Alongside emergency response, it runs defensible-space and wildfire-risk-reduction programs, fire-prevention education, and community outreach reflecting the wildfire exposure of its forested, rural service area.
Apparatus is distributed across the stations and includes structural engines and a water tender to support operations in an area without extensive hydrant coverage.
Illinois Valley Fire District recruits volunteer firefighters and volunteer support members (traffic control, rehab support, water tender operators). No prior experience is required and the district provides training to those it accepts.
Applications can be downloaded from the district's website and are accepted in person or by email. Recruitment inquiries are directed to Jamie Paul at jamiepaul@ivfire.com.
