About Monroe Fire Department

Monroe Fire Department has protected this Union County city since 1884, growing from a single volunteer company sheltering its first steamer in a livery stable into a modern, career department. Today the department runs eight truck companies out of six stations across three shifts on a modified 24-hour schedule, backed by an authorized strength of 105 personnel.

The department's scope goes well beyond structural firefighting: crews handle emergency medical response, technical rescue, hazardous materials mitigation, aircraft rescue and firefighting, fire investigations, and community risk reduction and life-safety education. That breadth, paired with sustained investment in training, equipment, and water supply, earned Monroe an ISO Class 1 rating in 2024 — a distinction held by only about 30 departments statewide — plus its third CFAI/CPSE Agency Accreditation, good through 2027 and shared by just 311 agencies nationwide.

Monroe also cultivates its own pipeline of future firefighters, running the Fire Explorers program for teens ages 14-20 and Camp 1884 alongside broader public education efforts, in addition to fielding a Firefighter Employment Interest Form for adults who want to be first in line when hiring opens.

MissionMonroe Fire Department's mission is to protect life and property in our community through a personal commitment in all services provided.
