Operating from six stations spread across downtown, the city center, the east-side foothills, the south side, the far southwest, and the municipal airport, the department delivers fire suppression, emergency medical services, and a range of specialized rescue capabilities to Santa Fe residents and visitors.
Beyond frontline engine and medic companies, SFFD fields dedicated resources for hazardous materials response, technical rescue, and aircraft crash rescue at the Santa Fe Airport. The department's Fire Marshal's Office handles fire inspections, investigations, plan reviews, and Community Risk Reduction, while additional programs cover wildland fire preparedness and Mobile Integrated Health.
Santa Fe trains its own firefighters through a 20-week Fire Cadet Academy. Recruits complete a mentally and physically demanding program that leads to IFSAC Firefighter certification and New Mexico EMT-B credentials, along with training in hazardous materials, wildland firefighting, and technical rescue.
