About Rio Rancho Fire Rescue

Rio Rancho Fire Rescue (RRFR) traces its roots to a volunteer operation that predates the city's 1981 incorporation. For years the department operated under a combined Department of Public Safety model with cross-trained personnel, until a 2007 City ordinance separated the agency into the standalone Rio Rancho Police Department and Rio Rancho Fire Rescue. Today RRFR runs six staffed stations across the city, with a seventh planned as Rio Rancho continues to grow.

The department's roughly 146 personnel handle fire suppression, medical and trauma response, and technical rescue for one of New Mexico's fastest-growing cities. RRFR anticipates call volume climbing about 5% a year and uses statistical analysis of service demand to plan where future stations will go, alongside internal succession planning to develop the next generation of department leaders.
