Department careers page ↗Farmington Fire Department protects the northwest corner of New Mexico's Four Corners region, running calls 24/7/365 out of six stations for a resident population of about 47,000 that swells past 100,000 with day-shift commuters from neighboring communities. Beyond structural firefighting, FFD fields three specialty teams: a Wildland crew that has deployed as a New Mexico State Forestry resource to fires as far away as Arizona, Colorado, California, and Texas; a Haz-Mat team that has served as San Juan County's only official state Regional Response Team since 1995; and a Technical Rescue Team trained to the technician level in high angle, swift water, confined space, and trench rescue. Station 3 sits beside Four Corners Regional Airport and houses the department's dedicated ARFF apparatus. FFD traces its roots to 1912, when the city hired its first fire chief over a volunteer bucket-brigade outfit, and became a fully career department by the late 1980s; it now holds an ISO Public Protection Classification of 2, up from a 4, placing its district in the top 2% of New Mexico municipalities for fire protection.
