Department careers page ↗Winslow Township Fire Department traces its roots to a township referendum that consolidated nine independent volunteer companies — Winslow, West Atco, Cedar Brook, Tansboro, Florence, Albion, Sicklerville, Waterford, and Elm — into a single fire district, with the first Board of Fire Commissioners elected in 1989. The combined department was unified under its first chief, Michael A. Saraceni, in November 2003.
The department became a combination department in August 2006, when it hired its first career captains and firefighters to provide daytime coverage. Today it fields roughly 21 career firefighters working a four-platoon schedule alongside a volunteer membership, operating out of three active firehouses: the Cedar Brook Road station (headquarters and volunteer operations), the Church Road station in Sicklerville, and the Southard Avenue station in Waterford, both staffed around the clock by career crews.
Under Fire Chief Marc S. Rigberg, who took command in 2015 after rising through the volunteer and career ranks himself, the department handles fire suppression and emergency response across the township, along with code enforcement, resale inspections, and community fire-safety education, including an annual Fire Prevention Day each October.
