Neptune Fire District #1 protects Neptune Township, New Jersey with a combination model built on four volunteer fire companies — Hamilton, Liberty, Shark River Hills, and Unexcelled — supplemented by a small Career Division that staffs Engine 34-74 on weekdays. Together, career and volunteer members respond to more than 1,000 calls a year and assist Neptune EMS with medical calls as needed.
The district is governed by a five-member, publicly elected Board of Fire Commissioners that meets monthly and oversees budgets, policy, and the Training and Fire Prevention divisions. The Fire Prevention Bureau conducts inspections of roughly 900 township businesses, investigates fires, and runs school-based fire safety education each October during Fire Prevention Month.
A Training Division, led by a Training Coordinator and Assistant Training Coordinator under commissioner oversight, coordinates company-level drills and ensures compliance with state and local training requirements across the district's mixed career/volunteer workforce.
