Department careers page ↗Central Lyon County Fire Protection District was formed on April 14, 1971, when the Lyon County Board of Commissioners unified a patchwork of volunteer fire departments that had already been protecting the region's communities for generations. The district added Advanced Life Support paramedic capability on December 1, 1994, and has since grown into a combination department that blends career, reserve, and volunteer personnel to cover a fast-growing, largely rural stretch of Lyon County.
Today the district operates seven stations spread across Dayton, Silver Springs, Silver City, Stagecoach, Mound House, and the Mark Twain and Sutro areas, protecting more than 33,000 residents. Beyond emergency response, the district runs community-facing programs including CPR and fire-extinguisher training, free blood-pressure screenings, home smoke-detector installation, defensible-space consultations, a youth firesetter program, and burn permitting.
The district is governed by an independently elected Fire Board and, in 2008, completed one of the first "green" fire stations in the area. Leadership emphasizes personal ownership, professionalism, and stewardship of taxpayer resources as it continues to serve one of the faster-growing corners of the Reno-Tahoe region.
