About Central Valley Fire District

Central Valley Fire District traces its roots to the Belgrade Volunteer Fire Department, organized in December 1906, which for decades relied on a bucket brigade, hose carts, and community fundraisers like the Fireman's Ball before acquiring its first fire engine in 1936. The Belgrade Rural Fire District was formally established in 1947 as one of Montana's earliest rural fire protection districts, and later grew through the annexation of the Reese Creek (1978) and Springhill (1987) service areas, the latter formed specifically for wildland fire suppression. In 2006 the district rebranded as Central Valley Fire District to reflect its expanded territory beyond Belgrade proper.

Today CVFD is a combination agency of 46 career firefighters and support staff alongside 32 volunteer firefighters and EMS members, operating seven stations across roughly 200 square miles of Gallatin County, with Stations 1 and 3 staffed 24/7 and the remainder crewed by reserve and volunteer personnel. The district serves about 36,000 residents in Belgrade, River Rock, Valley Center, Four Corners, Springhill, Reece Creek, and Dry Creek, an area bisected by Interstate 90 and the Montana Rail Link line and home to Bozeman-Yellowstone International Airport, mixing agricultural, wildland, recreational, and residential risk. Areas within 5 road miles of a station carry a Class 3 ISO/PPC rating.

The district's mission is "to serve our communities with excellence through the delivery of services to preserve life and property," guided by stated values of family, integrity, trust, and professionalism.
