Department careers page ↗Strafford Fire Protection District has protected the Strafford, Missouri community since 1957, when it began as a dues-paying volunteer department. Voters converted the department into a tax-supported protection district in 1987, and the district expanded its mission in August 1989 to add medical and rescue response alongside structural firefighting.
A 2008 federal grant let the district move to a combination career-and-volunteer model, and in spring 2009 it hired 16 firefighters to staff three rotating shifts. The department has since grown into an 18-person career force working alongside its volunteer roster, governed by a five-member elected board of directors.
Today the district runs three stations plus a satellite facility, including a newly built Station 3, and answers roughly 1,800 calls a year. An $8 million bond passed in April 2022 is funding continued equipment and facility upgrades as the department plans further growth.
