Saint Charles Fire Department

The St. Charles Fire Department describes itself as "much more than you might think of as a fire department," pairing structural firefighting with a broad menu of humanitarian services for the community it serves. Beyond fire suppression, the department runs emergency medical services and vehicle rescue as core functions, and maintains special operations teams trained in water rescue, hazardous materials response, technical rescue, confined space rescue, and structural collapse rescue, along with a disaster-response role.

Operations are organized around six fire stations spread across the city, with the department stating that response times from the nearest station should be under five minutes 90% of the time. Station 4, at 3201 Boschertown Road, also houses the department's administrative offices and doubles as a Public Safety Facility. The department supplements its own coverage through automatic aid agreements with neighboring fire districts.

Leadership is organized into fire operations and an EMS bureau, headed by a Fire Chief, Deputy Fire Chief, EMS Bureau Chief, and Fire Marshal, reflecting the department's dual identity as both a fire suppression agency and a full-service EMS provider for the city.
