Department careers page ↗Johnson County Fire Protection District #2 traces its roots to the Western Jo-Co Fire Association, Inc., incorporated in 1979 by local residents seeking organized fire protection. Voters formalized the effort in April 1982, approving the creation of the tax-supported Johnson County Fire Protection District No. 2, which is governed by a three-member elected board of directors.
The district covers approximately 265 square miles across Jackson, Kingsville, Madison, and Rose Hill Townships in western Johnson County, running calls out of five stations serving the Holden and Kingsville communities. Operations are funded through a property tax levy of roughly 37 cents per $100 of assessed valuation.
As an all-volunteer department, JCFPD2 continually recruits community members and provides no-cost training in firefighting, medical response, disaster response, and water rescue, giving volunteers a path to build experience that can carry into full-time fire service careers.
