The Ocean Springs Fire Department was organized on October 30, 1880 and, on September 22, 1881, became the first chartered fire company in Mississippi, giving it one of the longest continuous histories in the state's fire service.
Today the department operates out of three stations with a total of 37 personnel. Coverage runs on three rotating 24-hour shifts, each staffed by 11 members: one Battalion Chief, three Captains, and seven Firefighters. The administrative team is led by the Fire Chief and includes a Deputy Chief, a Training Chief, and a Fire Marshal.
