Department careers page ↗The Jackson Fire Department is the career fire service for the City of Jackson, the capital and largest city of Mississippi. It delivers fire suppression, emergency response, life safety services, community education, prevention inspections, and pre-emergency planning across the city.
The department operates 28 fire stations and is organized into divisions covering Emergency Services, Fire Loss Management, the Fire Marshal's Office, Community Relations and Fire Safety Education, Training, and Special Operations. Its Special Operations division handles technical rescue, hazardous materials, rope rescue, confined space, dive rescue, swift water rescue, and structural collapse.
Beyond suppression, the department runs an active Fire Investigations/Arson unit, a Fire Marshal's Office for code enforcement and inspections, and public-facing programs including smoke alarm installations, a Fire Safety House, and a fire museum.
The department currently carries a Class 3 ISO fire rating and has set a goal of reaching Class 2.
