Department careers page ↗The Anoka-Champlin Fire Department serves the neighboring cities of Anoka and Champlin, Minnesota as a shared department under a joint powers agreement that began in 1985, when Champlin joined the existing Anoka Fire Department. The two cities oversee the department through a five-member Fire Board — two members appointed from Anoka, two from Champlin, and one at-large seat — which publishes its agendas and minutes. Administrative offices sit at the Anoka Public Safety Building, and the department's fire service roots reach back to 1857, when Anoka's first company, the Protection Hook and Ladder Company, was organized.
Staffing follows a combination model: a full-time command staff of the fire chief, two assistant chiefs, a battalion chief, and a fire technician, supported by a part-time administrative assistant and a paid-on-call division of 45 firefighters. Paid-on-call members also staff a four-to-six-person duty crew during weekday evenings. The department operates two stations, one in each city — Station 1 at the Anoka Public Safety Building (275 Harrison Street) and Station 2 at the Champlin Public Safety Building (11955 Champlin Drive) — with the fleet split evenly between them.
Beyond emergency response, the department describes itself as an all-risk life safety response provider and runs fire inspections and code enforcement, fire-protection plan review for new construction, fire investigation, and community fire-safety education programs across both cities.
