About Comstock Charter Township Fire & Rescue

Comstock Charter Township Fire & Rescue has served the township since 1924, covering 35 square miles of southwest Michigan that include six miles of Interstate 94, state highways, active rail lines, the Kalamazoo River, and a hydroelectric dam. Operating out of three stations, the department fields a mix of full-time and paid on-call firefighters around the clock to handle more than 2,000 calls for service each year, ranging from structure fires and highway crashes to swift-water and river rescues along the Kalamazoo.

Beyond emergency response, the department runs an active fire-prevention program, including CPR training, home smoke-alarm installation, and safety inspections, and it participates in mutual aid through the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) with neighboring Kalamazoo-area agencies. In February 2017, the Insurance Services Office upgraded the department's Public Protection Classification, placing it among the top 233 of nearly 2,000 fire departments statewide in Michigan.

Comstock actively recruits part-time and paid on-call firefighters, offering full training in fire, EMS, and rescue skills to candidates who live within the township's response area, while also welcoming laterally certified firefighters and EMTs from further out.

How to get hired

Comstock Charter Township Fire & Rescue is currently accepting applications for part-time and paid on-call firefighters. The department provides all necessary fire, EMS, and rescue training to qualified candidates, so prior firefighting experience is not required for local applicants.
