Department careers page ↗The Lenox Fire Department has protected this Berkshire County town since 1909, when it was formed in the wake of an Easter fire that destroyed a large section of downtown Lenox. More than a century later it still operates as a combination department, pairing career and relief firefighter/EMTs at Central Station with call and volunteer members who cover the Lenox Dale and North End (New Lenox) stations.
The department's call volume reflects both a small year-round population and a heavy seasonal influx tied to Tanglewood, Shakespeare & Company, and other Berkshires cultural destinations. Crews handle structure fires, motor vehicle accidents, brush fires, technical and water rescues, and elevator emergencies, alongside the day-to-day service calls -- animal rescues, water evacuations, elder assistance -- that come with covering a close-knit New England town. The department also runs its own paramedic-level ambulance service, providing 24/7 advanced life support transport to Lenox and neighboring communities.
