About Lawrence Fire Department

The Lawrence Fire Department operates out of six stations spread across the city, headquartered at 65 Lowell Street alongside Engine 5, Ladder 5, Rescue 1, and the department's Fire Prevention office. The remaining companies -- Engine 6, Engine 7, Engine 8, Engine 9, and Ladder 4 -- are housed at satellite stations on Howard Street, Park Street, Ames Street, Bailey Street, and South Broadway, giving the department city-wide engine and ladder coverage plus a dedicated rescue apparatus.

Beyond emergency response, the department runs a Fire Prevention division that handles permitting, plan reviews, construction-site fire safety, sprinkler inspections, hot-works permits, dumpster permits, and home smoke-detector inspections under Massachusetts General Law Chapter 148, Section 26F. Fire Prevention also investigates arson and vehicle fires and manages the city's traffic-signal and emergency-communications equipment.

The department is led by Fire Chief Patrick Delaney and is administered through the City of Lawrence, which handles hiring and job postings for the department through its centralized city job portal rather than a separate fire-department careers site.

How to get hired

The Lawrence Fire Department does not run its own recruitment page; firefighter openings, when available, are posted through the City of Lawrence's centralized Job Opportunities portal (the same portal used for all city departments). The fire department's page also points prospective candidates to the Massachusetts state guide on becoming a firefighter for general information on the statewide hiring process.
