About Fall River Fire Department

The Fall River Fire Department (FRFD) protects the city of Fall River, Massachusetts, operating six fire stations across the community: Candeias, Central, Flint Reney/Eastwood, Globe/Kosior, North End, and Stanley Street. Together these houses field six engine companies and three ladder companies, plus rescue and medical-rescue apparatus, with a total department manpower complement of 164 personnel.

Beyond fire suppression, FRFD's organization spans a Fire Prevention Bureau handling code enforcement and public education, a Training Division, a Maintenance Division, and the Emergency Management Agency. The department describes its mission as an integrated one, combining suppression capability with a pre-hospital care system, prevention and code enforcement, public education, and emergency management planning. The Training Division doubles as a satellite facility for the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy (MFA), staffed by more than 20 certified instructors, roughly 15 of whom also instruct for the state academy.

FRFD also runs community-facing programs distinct from emergency response. Safe Stations opens every Fall River firehouse from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily as a walk-in, no-referral haven for residents seeking help with substance abuse or personal crises. The volunteer Special Service Unit, operating under the department's Emergency Management Agency, provides firefighter rehab, scene lighting, and mass-casualty and shelter support using dedicated specialty vehicles and an emergency response trailer.

MissionTo safeguard the lives and property and to enhance the quality of life of the people of Fall River and its neighboring communities.
