Eastham Fire Department

The Eastham Fire Department is the career fire and EMS agency for the Town of Eastham, Massachusetts, on the Outer Cape in Barnstable County. The department runs fire suppression and emergency medical response around the clock from a single station at 2520 State Highway, with a roster of 23 career personnel — including 12 firefighter/paramedics and 8 firefighter/EMT-Basics — working rotating 24-hour shifts with five members on duty per group.

Beyond structure fires and medical calls, the department handles fire and carbon monoxide alarms, motor vehicle accidents, beach and water rescues, boating emergencies, hazardous materials incidents, and technical rescues, and delivers fire prevention and public education programs in the community. The station houses 13 pieces of apparatus and equipment.

Call volume reflects Eastham's summer-resort character: the department logged 2,213 incidents in 2025 — roughly two-thirds of them EMS — with activity peaking in July and August as the Outer Cape's seasonal population arrives.

The Eastham Fire Department posts all of its openings on the Town of Eastham's online job portal under Public Safety Openings, with hiring questions handled by the town's Human Resources office. Recent recruitments (July 2026) were open until filled, with preference given to candidates who applied by a stated date.

The department hires at both the Firefighter/EMT and Firefighter/Paramedic levels. Candidates need current Massachusetts and/or National Registry certification at the posted level, a high school diploma or GED, and a valid Massachusetts driver's license; Firefighter I/II certification is preferred. Experienced firefighters are encouraged to apply — transfers from other municipal or departmental positions are considered, and relevant prior public safety experience factors into starting salary placement.
