About Saint George Fire Protection District No. 2

St. George Fire Protection District traces its roots to 1968, when a group of volunteers organized to address a gap in fire protection for the growing community south and east of Baton Rouge. The department added its first part-time employees in the late 1980s as the area continued to grow, and by 1998 had transitioned to a full-time, career staffing model that operates around the clock.

Today the department delivers fire suppression, fire prevention and investigation, community risk reduction and education, and medical first response through dedicated Operations, Medical Services, Fire Prevention, Communications, and Special Services divisions. It maintains a Class 1 fire rating from the Property Insurance Association of Louisiana and responds to well over 10,000 emergency and non-emergency requests for service each year.

A newer Special Operations Division extends the department's capability into technical rescue disciplines, including water rescue, trench collapse, and rope/high-angle rescue, alongside hazardous materials response, reflecting the department's stated focus on evolving alongside the needs of its community.

MissionThe mission of the St. George Fire Protection District is to protect lives and property through the prevention and/or mitigation of fires and other emergencies. This mission will be accomplished through a variety of programs that are hereby established. These programs are established with life safety, property conservation, and cost effectiveness in mind, in that order.
