About New Orleans Fire Department

The New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) is a career department serving the City of New Orleans and roughly 390,000 residents. It is organized into 6 fire districts, 10 divisions, and 31 stations, staffed by 573 firefighters.

The department fields a broad fleet: 28 engine companies, 6 ladder companies, and 4 technical rescue squads, plus a marine and water-rescue capability that includes a 34-foot CBRRNE fireboat and a fleet of flat boats. It also provides Aircraft Rescue and EMS coverage at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY).

NOFD traces its roots to April 1829 and the volunteer Firemen's Charitable Association, with the paid municipal department established December 15, 1891. Today it carries a top-tier ISO Class 1 fire protection rating.

MissionThe NOFD will respond to all emergency situations in the City of New Orleans to protect and save life and property. Further, the Department will strive to reduce the incidence of fire and the loss of life and injuries to civilians and fire personnel.
